cross NLE editing?

Is it possible to edit on two different NLE's say. Final cut/Premiere and put the files together at the end to render in say Final cut? The reason I ask is I was just borrowing a mac to edit a project, and she decided to get it back. I exported all the projects as XML's.. can I in theory open these in say Premiere and still work on the project?
 
I'm about to finalize a music video like this, director made the editing on FCP, and give me the xml file, i already have the original footage, just import the footage to premiere CS5 and the xml, then Bingo! the only thing is premiere only recognize certain basic effect like, cross dissolve etc. it will not recognize the effects done on color software.It works pretty awesome:)
 
Often not without a reasonable waste of time and pain in the a. Bottom line is it's far simpler to use a single app for all editorial work. Otherwise it's possible but plan on spending a lot of tedious time working out all of the tiny details to make it all perfect at the end.
