Cropping Two Shots in One

Hi,

I have a scene where a character kills his 'evil twin' (in one shot, camera-wise), so we filmed a shot of the character on the left side of the screen, shooting a gun at his twin. Then we stopped the camera (we didn't move the camera), had the actor change his wardrobe, put him toward the right (where the 'good twin' was aiming the gun), and had him act as if he was shot.
I've tried to pan/crop (I put the video on two separate tracks), but have had no luck. It'd be awesome if there was a way to split the screen from right to left.
Any suggestions? Much thanks!

Definitely a job for the bezier mask!

Can "mask" half of the frame (or even a small area within the frame), then Feather a little, and you're done. You'll likely also need some minor colour or luminance correction to get them to match, particularly if much time passed.

With the normal crop tools, you need to disable "Lock Aspect Ratio" and "Size About Center" along the left edge of the tool box, and then change "Maintain Aspect Ratio" under "Source" to "no." Then you can choose the part of the image you want to crop to.

My low-tech solution...

why not just use real life twins?

The shot cropping, I would think, would be used more for making a recognizable actor/actress appear to be twins (ala Hayley Mills and Haley Mills in The Parent Trap...or Kevin Kline and Kevin Kline in Dave...etc)

Seems like a lotta unneeded work to me

The bezier mask worked wonders, and it was surprisingly easy. I'm super pleased with the outcome. Awesome advice. Much thanks!
