Cropping to 2.35:1 or 2.40:1...

Hey guys,

I frame a lot of what I shoot Cinescope, which I'm guessing is either 2.35:1 or 2.40:1, and have just begun experimenting with Premiere Pro CS4... But how the hell do you actually crop anything to a specific aspect ratio in this program? And also be able to adjust the positioning of the crop as you go?

I normally use Vegas, which, comparatively speaking, is an absolute breeze. Open "Event Pan/Crop", leave the width at 1920, set the height to 817, then go into "Track Motion", input the same variables, and presto!

DD.

make the sequence right first(with the 2.4 aspect), then insert the video file to the sequence, it will show up cropped, then you can change the position of the clip, for example double click the clip in the time line to load to the viewer, go to video effects, open motion, keyframe and change position the second number is the height.

What I do is just go into a paint program and create an image that is the same resolution as your video clip, and then add in the black bars to the correct aspect ratio (use a calculator to figure it out if need be). Leave the color in the middle something different, and import that image as the top video layer of everything in your project and color key out the middle. Then you have the added freedom of adjusting your framing a little up and down if need be without affecting the cropping.

that would letter box not crop, not a very good idea, it's simple to make the right sequence.

i'm not sure u could adjust the sequence settings in premiere pro after u make it, it's better to start with the right sequence.just make a new project and set all the parameters u want.
