cropping hd to 4:3

I have some footage that i shot with an hvx200, and some footage from somebody else that shot with a vx1000 in standard def. I want to use the two together and crop the sides of my hd clips from the hvx in the final cut timeline (pan and scan if i need to) so the aspect ration matches, but i would like to not lose the resolution from the hd clips. I tried to do this by changing my sequence setting but the aspect ratio of the clips gets stretched and scewed. What do my timeline settings need to be to get the desired results?

Reset the aspect ratio and distortion sliders on the clips- you can do the first one and then copy, paste attributes to the rest. You'll want to check out each shot to pan and scan it to fit so stuff you want on the sides doesn't get cropped out.
