crop and uprez

Simple question - (googled it and checked forums: no satisfactory findings).

I have a shot i want to slightly reframe and this requires altering position and rescaling by a few percent. This creates a very slight loss in resolution. What are your methods for doing this rescale / crop to reframe clips regarding resolution? I'm sure it's possible to use something like Boris uprez to add back some fake rez / sharpness but I would like to hear anybody else's ideas on this process. The footage is HD 1920x1080. Thanks in advance.

A lot of the result depends on the source material. I have had pretty good results upscaling an image by a few percent (less than 10%) just working within After Effects. Then move the image around to reframe it appropriately. I do any scaling early in the post-production - usually doing any noise reduction first, then scaling/reframing, then color correction and grading. There seems to be some combinations of scaling the really wreaks havoc if your image has any sort of multiple lines in it. I assume it is because the scaling algorithm struggles with the edges.

The various "uprezzing" plugins may help when doing significant scaling but, contrary to the advertising copy, nothing can make SD video look like 4K.
