so late last night, bored I walked aimlessly around rogers Video searching for something I have yet to see.

Came across CRIMSON RIVERS 2 - THE ANGELS OF THE APOCALYPSE.

I watched the first one which was pretty good... maybe it was the mood I was in, but I really enjoyed this.

It is an action/mystery/thriller with some elements of horror. Stars Jean Reno who is a star no matter what he does(exception being that time travel movie he did) and a bunch of other French Actors(guess i should mention it's a french movie and is subtitled).

Has an interesting look to it, kind of reminded me of a black pro mist... not sure, but it gave it a look I've not seen too often.

Has a great Making of Documentary and several Featurettes.

Speaking of Making of's...

After The Sunset - awful movie, weakest plot twist I've ever seen, Salma in little clothes only highlight... yet it has a great making of: "Before, During and After the Sunset". It's not the best doc for teaching, but it's quite interesting and funny, way more entertaining than the actual movie.

Insomnia(Nolan's remake) - bought it for $9.99 off a clearance rack, love Nolan's work, like the movie but it just isn't as much of an impact film as his other work. But, if you click on his Director Commentary, it does a cool thing I've not seen before: It shows the movie in the order they shot it, with Nolan explaining everything he can think of on actors, blocking, set design, lighting etc. I think it's a perfect example of how movies are made, and how on day one you may shoot the second scene, day two the climax where the lead dies, then the next day have the lead in a love scene - it's a great overview for young filmmakers to get an idea of how a big budget movie is made.

Thanks for the review Stabb; I have seen this RENO flick at Hollywood Video and have been tempted; and yes, Salma is always a highlight.

I rented Crimson Rivers the other night just because I saw Reno on the cover. I wasn't expecting much from it, but it was worth watching. It even has chistopher lee in it!!

I really liked first part. Second was a bit weaker, but is still worth seeing, for sure. I guess I was expecting something more significant to be revealed about the guys in the robes, than... ha! I'm not telling :P But then again, it was the case with the original too, where superficial stuff was rather logically explained in the end. Oh well... :) Good thrillers with a nice creepy feeling to them and gritty and interesting cinematography.

I just rented Angels of the Apocalypse (CR II) and although the movie as a whole was just "ok"...the cinematography, choice of color and set design was incredible. I suppose a lot of this was done with a digital intermediate but I was very impressed with the "look" / tonal ranges. Worth checking out for that alone.
Also on the DVD extras there is a section on lighting which was a bonus.
FWIW,
