Credits Question

I wrote a screenplay based on a short story, with the publishers permission. I pretty much followed the exact story with additions for setups, transitions, etc. I also directed the shoot.

Can I take a "Written by" credit, or "Written and Directed by"? What is appropriate here? I gave the story author credit with a "Based on a story by ...".

Yup, you can put written and directed by you, just put "based on a story by.." so yeah, you've answered your own question.
