ok so i do NOT want to do "commercials" but a friend has asked me to help him out...

the short story is that it is a HUGE company that sells RV's of all shapes and sizes.

the have the traditional large lot with lots of vehicles parked in a general layout according to size/style with a repair shop.

i have the dvx-100a, anamorphic adaptor and an 8ft crane.

i am afraid he will probably just want it in 4:3

i am looking for some creative suggestions so i can dome something a little more interesting!

So, it's a big RV dealership you're talking about? How about emphasizing the enormous selection in a humorous way. Find a *huge* dude with tatoos and the tiniest little old lady and put the dude in the smallest vehicle on the lot and the little old lady in the biggest RV. Long dolly shot alongside the huge RV and--surprise, the shot stops on the tiny woman is groovin in the front seat. Juxtaposed with a close-up of the big guy with a beatific smile and the camera pulls back to show the small vehicle. Crane up to an RV window--and it reveals a bunch of little kids bouncing off the walls. Crane over to the next window--we see the father with a desperate pleading look on his face.

Or...sell the lifestyle

Open with a shot from an exterior car mounted cam placed far back, so you see most of the car as well as the surroundings. The car is driving 5 mph through rush hour traffic. [Sounds of traffic, traffic jam report on the radio]Cut to a another exterior cam view--this time its an RV tooling through some scenic mountains. Dissolve to another exterior RV shot--driving through the countryside. Dissolve to a third RV shot--driving alongside a lake. [sounds of soft music, kids quietly playing and adults talking about a beautiful sight or a restaurant they just visited].

Man, That was some great stuff Barry!
Any Ideas for a jewlery store? It's a small place (kind of antique like setting) in a very senic little town. I have some ideas, though not very original. you seem to have this stuff nailed.

i have to try and work him into that way of thinking, he wants a pan around his huge couple of acres of rv's and a couple of close up's of land yachts!

Nailed? I don't think so. :) It's always easier coming up with ideas for other people's projects. With my own projects the ideas flow as easily as kidney stones. I'll think about the jewelry store spot and see if I can come up with something.

Matthew--good luck with the client, but don't be surprised if you end up in a bucket truck doing the pan and working in shots of the owner's kids screaming--"come on down for great RV deals!"

Re: Creative suggestions needed for comm. for frie

actually i think the friend i'm helping (who did their previous promo video) WAS up in a bucket loader or something with his POS sony consumer digital 8 camera doing just about that!

my weakness is that i want projects to get experience and i know nice well meaning guys who don't have a clue about quality video and i offer to help out just to get to do interesting things.

it seems like a challenge to take a horribly boring project with a client with no visible imagination and try to come up with something.

i used to do this in the graphic design field a long time ago and i just don't quite have the confidence yet for doing it with video but that is the goal.

for the jewelry store, IF they actually make any of their own stuff you could really focus (literally) on the goldsmith making some pieces which is a somewhat old fashioned thing which would fit in with how you described it.
