Let's see if we can't pool our minds together to come up with a cool way of getting money for a movie. It's gotta be legal so no public offerings or anything, but something creative. For some reason I don't feel like that subject has been tapped out. I was thinking, "What kind of guy would want to invest 25 grand in a movie?"

So I'm thinking wealthy, divorced, mid-life crisis guy who's realizing that his money has brought him no happiness at all. A guy whose work is fulfilling in no way. A guy who aspired to do more when he was young, but ultimately followed the money trail. Of course he did, most of us would.

Bored, rich, 40, where do you find these guys? This is where. Go online and look up expensive, all inclusive resorts in Mexico. Top of the line. Make sure it's a singles resort, or at least has some kind of swanky innuendo about it. Then book yourself a room, and go on the hunt. Tell your wife it's a business trip for investors (true).
And when you're there, whether you're single or not, don't pick up on the women. Just sidle up to the bar and play the laid-back supportive wing man. Get these bored guys laid and they'll talk to you. It's probably three grand for everything. You'll be on a beach. I'm telling you.

So give me some ideas you guys.

Sounds like a movie you've got there (the con).... but I don't think that will work in real life (the money)...

It is much better requesting grants from companies and institutions for an artistic endeavor.

That works.

I think this is a better idea for a screenplay, than for a way to get that screenplay produced.

But maybe you can pull off both.

Why not just bash them on their heads with a DVX100(or HVX) and steal his credit cards and car keys and mobile, probably a whole let easier.

I mean one moment you could be pitching your movie, and the next moment while they are looking interested raise up your DVX100 and slam it into their heads,

"The shock from the impact will render your victim useless, and open to robbery"-Crime for Dummies

Of course please note I'm being sarcastic...

You sound like a 2 dollar hooker

a depressed loser, a slut, and a sleazy filmmaker walk into a bar...

sounds more like the opening line to a bad joke than a business strategy.

Good thinking with the Wii but I'm not sure we should eliminate the human element especially when it comes to bowling. Everybody loves everybody when you're bowling. Bowling levels the playing field. No matter who you are, you're strapping on used shoes just like the rest of us. Plus it's one of the rare times in our lives when people will actually cheer for us. And I could use a good cheer. But who couldn't, really? Bowling. At one of those new, upscale restaurant/Bar/bowling places. That's pure gold TheMacB.

Tsk Tsk Tsk!
"Bored, rich, 40, where do you find these guys? " "Mexico" ? Hardly.
Try Casinos of London, Monte Carlo. A biz trip to Dubai for sure. But forget the scams. Anyone who has VC cash to burn at 40 isn't stupid. I know cause I've seen them in action. Nothing beats a solid business plan and script and a gleaming proposal. Another thing, I don't share my cash with anyone unless they put 'skin' into the game- collateral + thier own cash too. Gotta spend money to make money. I'm not 40, bored or that rich ! LOL!
