Creative question about trailers

I wasn't really sure where to put this, so I'll start here. Does anyone know of any articles about the creative aspect of making trailers? Or does anyone have any advice about where to start when trying to make a trailer from an hour and a half movie? I've got a feature done that I want to make a trailer for and get up on the movie's website, but I've never made a trailer before. I've been watching a few on DVDs and kind of have an idea of what to do, but I was just wondering if there's any technique to making a good trailer? Any tips?

Thanks
Nathan

think about what can I show that will make people want to see this movie. what are my most grabbing or appealing visuals and sound. at the same time you have to focus on telling the story, but not everything.

combining those tasks makes it a pretty challenging job. music is incredibly important too. you are composing a commericial for the movie. you'll probably be using several tracks. perhaps start off by writing out your " this movie is about.." 2 sentences. and see what visuals go with that in an impactful way.

sometimes I find the music first, just by how I know I want the viewer to feel and then I build the images-story to it. sometimes I think about what visuals-audio first and then find the music. I'm just rambling now, my first paragraph is the most important.
