Creation: The Struggle of Darwin to write Origin of Species.

I rented this last week and watched it several times. It is a fresh biographical account of Charles Darwin's darkest period, after the death of his pride-and-joy young daughter, Annie. Guilt and anguish keep him from working on Origin of Species for many years and his struggle to regain his health and sanity are the arc of the film.

Paul Bettany is such an underrated actor. His performance as Darwin is superb. Jennifer Connelly plays Emma Darwin and is married to Bettany in real life as well. Connelly is such a class act, she also delivers a powerful performance, reminicent of her performance in A Beautiful Mind.

In some parts, I feel that film runs a bit long, and feels like an artsy euro-film. But it is beautifully shot and certainly worthy of a look.

Anyone else seen this yet? Thoughts?

There's been several versions of this story told recently. I saw one on PBS that was fairly good, Darwin's Darkest Hour, with the guy who played Desmond on Lost playing Darwin.

sounds like a good one to check out - same goes for the original posting as well. I am about halfway through Origin of Species and because of the book (and my background in biology) I took a deeper look at Darwin's life - very interesting man, lot's of dramatic elements that would be perfect for film - perhaps that is why we are seeing more recently? either way I'm going to have to check these two movies out. I'll try and get to them soon so I can contribute more than just saying I'll watch them :P
