Creating your own effects..

A friend of mine has been telling me that he creates his own effects within FCP. I havent been able to get over to his place to see what he has done but I am wondering just what kind of effects can one create from scratch? I actually did something the other day where I took a clip and split it in several spots and then added a different effect to each section of the clip I just split. Other than that I havent figured out how to do anything else from scratch.

Within FCP you can do basic motion effects with graphics that you import. But if you have Final Cut Studio, you can use Motion 2 for more complex motions, as well as particle emitters and replication functions. It is also a good program for chroma keying.

There are two ways in FCP to create your own effects from scratch and save them, which I'm assuming your buddy means. Cause just creating effects is easy.

FX Script, or filter and motion Favorites.
