creating this visual effect???

It looks like a complex fluid simulation. It would have been made in one of the professional 3D programs used for studio filmmaking. You can do fluid simulation in Blender, which is free. I'm sure with unlimited time one could produce that effect with it...

Yeah, it looks like fluid in fluid. The container fluid isn't rendered, it just acts as an obstacle, something for the injected fluid to react against. And maybe a few particle attractor's to manipulate the fluids at the end.

Also looks like 2 injections were made, one for the finer drops and one for the larger clumps of mass.

A program like RealFlow may have been used. That does fluid sims and creates particle and mesh files for you. Those are then taken into a 3D program where materials are added and rendered.

And you'de have to do some motion tracking to match the camera movements.

The objects like the fan and bird are probably imported meshes covered in fluid particles with the particles getting blown off then that render is played backwards. One way it could have been done.
//Edit: I see RF5 has a morph tool now as shown in thier demo video. Maybe they used that with the fan and bird meshes.

thanks for the info, that all sounds very complicated but atleast i know how it can be done now, i'll start researching fluid simulation its interesting stuff!
