Creating SUB Clips...

As a former Avid user, I used to be able to open a clip in the Monitor,
select my In & Out points, and create a completely seperate Sub Clip
in the bin. Is this possible with APP 1.5?

I've seen the pull down arrow inside the main clip, but I would like a
seperate clip in the bin, so I can have a thumbnail and just general neatness
of my clips.

Thanks,
Adrian

Go to the clip you want to make sub clips out of.....Double click so it will appear in the left monitor window......Create a new bin........Go to the monitor window and select your in and out points......Once selected......Drag the clip over to the bin (put the cursor in the monitor window and drag it over).....then rename it

Tucker,

I tried your suggestion, and all it did was make a copy of the entire clip, keeping the same in and out points. Am I doing something wrong?

Also, does this technique create a new clip, such that if you delete the old clip, you would still have the footage that you want?

No it does not. It creates an "instance".

If you delete the source , the "instance" goes too. (Its like an alias)

You need to export the instance. ( and can do this lossless)

OK....check this out....You have an hour clip.....now you need to break the clip into sections....(for my sections I create new bins).....anyway.....you have your main clip in the monitor window......make your in point and out point......drag the clip to the new bin.....now....the sub clip will have the same name as your main clip......rename this to what ever you want......(this will only take place in premiere not on your hard drive).....so you cannot delete the main clip or else you will lose the sub clip......you are just creating a sub clip of the main clip.....this is much easier than handling the whole clip.......I never paid attention to the timecode.....but I will look into it......
