Creating FLASH (FLV) Movies from HDV

HELP!!
I have been commissioned to shoot promotional video clips, some of which will be uploaded to social networking sites, (which isn't a problem), and some which is to be uploaded to the clients WEB site. The wed designer has asked for this footage in the form of FLASH, FLV format, and here IS the problem! I edit using Videostudio X2 Pro, which CAN render edited .M2T files in FLV format. However, because I am shooting in HDV, I do not know whether I can PRODUCE HD Flash clips using this method. Furthermore, I do not know the resolution to select for the produced files. I can choose from default settings in the FLV create section of 320 X 240 OR 640 X 480. However, this clearly isn't HD, and although I do have an alternative CUSTOM facility where I can enter the resolution size of 1280 X 720, I am not sure that this will work!! It may be better to use some kind of OTHER converter to change the original MPEG 2 to FLV. Advice desperately needed!!
Thank you,
Spud

Advice: talk to the web designer. It's extremely likely that he doesn't actually want or need full HD.

First thing I did. SHE had less of a clue than me. Seems she uploads to the WEBSITE via something called ""you send it" which replaces the need for FTPs or something. The footage is SHOT in HD but I'm happy to present it however, as long as it is in the BEST possible quality. Any advice would be greatly welcomed and appreciated,

if you are shooting in hdv, isn't it a widescreen format? those are 4:3 numbers you posted.

if the file is going to be re-encoded when uploaded, you'll want to create a big file, in order to retain the picture quality... see the demistate youtube thread for details.

if it's going to be played back from the website without re-encoding, you may not want to make it 1280x720, because the bitrate required to sustain the picture quality for that frame size is at least 500kbps... the web server you are hosting the site on may not be able to sustain multiple concurrent streams of that high of a bitrate.

i can't give you any specifics on hdv-compatible frame sizes, because i shoot with avchd, and for the bitrates i shoot at, it uses industry-standard frame sizes with square pixels.

Thank you so much for your assistance. My understanding is that the footage will be run through 'Flowplayer'; (sorry I have very little web design knowledge), and am even thinking of persuading them to have MPEG-4 files.

Maybe you 'll have to check out http://www.vimeo.com/
Its a website where you can upload your movies in high quality. The webdesigner can then easily link the videos to his website.
only drawback is that the video will not be actually on the server of your workgiver. But it will appear on his site in the same way.

Post a sample and maybe I can help you track down your problem.

More than likely you're having issues with de-interlacing or scaling.
