Creating Back Projection for 16mm shoot - help!

Hey guys, this place has definetly been the most helpful and responsive for me, so even though this is a little off topic technically, I hope you can help me out!

I am shooting a 16mm (not super) color sync-sound film. We are getting an answer print and are not allowed to do any effects or green screen (school rules). My movie deals with some surreal dreamlike flashbacks and I'de really like to experiment with back projection.

I have at my disposal a Sony Z1U (no HVX nuts!) maya, shake, etc. I was thinking of shooting pal 50i then conforming to 24p in final cut. My problem is, when projecting the digital footagem even though it is 24p, whon't the refresh rate of the digital projector itself still be around 60hz or something? Will I get waves and lines?

My test weekend is next weekend, and I'de like to try and test a small chunk of this on a sound stage if possible. If anyone has any suggestions, tips, tricks, or knowledge of good projectors and material to project on (that is cheap!) please respond!

Thanks
