Creating A Chapter Menu

How do I create a Chapter Menu in DVD Ach 3? I tried using the help function but it's so confusing.

I just want somone to have the options of pressing Play or Chapter Selection on the DVD, if they press Chapter Selection, they can pick different scene chapters in the film?

I have a problem of actually creating those scene chapters. Right now I have my sub menu up, which is the Chapter Selection, but I'm stuck from that point. I want to put those scenes in that Chapter Selection Sub menu.

Please help me out.

What you have to do is create a submenu page, then import your media to that. THEN create the scene selection menu.

Ok. I thought there was a way I can create the scenes from the existing movie in the timeline in DVD Arch.

Wait -- reading over this again, I think I may have misunderstood what you currently have.

1) What do you have now?

2) What would you like to do?

You can make screen shots from DVD Architect Preview mode -- that would help.

You first have to make markers on the timeline. You click on the movie and when you have it pulled up on the timeline you just select the frame where the first chapter ends and the second starts.

Then to make the actual images for the buttons, what I did was pull up the movie in DVD A and scroll to the point I thought was most representative of the scene and did a Print Screen... then I would crop and resize them real tiny in Photoshop and save them all together in a folder... if you make it 25% it's original size you can fit two rows of three and a heading in one page...

Then you need to make a scene/chapter page which will allow you to create a page with however many links you need for the chapters themselves... you just click once on the movie itself on the Project Overview window but make sure you still have the main menu on the screen... then you click on Insert then on Scene Selection Menu... if you are used the 25% size then you will be able to fit 6 of them... if so , then select to add 6 links.
Then you can use the button already there, select Text and Image type for it, then drag the images over to the top and then type the name of the scenes on the text. You will also have to Insert Empty Buttons on this page and make them the way you like them with the little images you created in Photoshop... then you also have to select what chapter for each of these on their Property Windows... select Action, then on Destination select "play movie" and for Destination Chapter select the chapter it corresponds to from the markers you added on the movie's timeline.

There... phhewwww... that hurt my brain.

Best way to get the chapter markers into the movie is to put them in on the Vegas timeline. (Press "M.") Then, when you render, have "Save project markers in media file" checked. The markers will show up as chapter markers in the DVDA timeline.

Here's an old tutorial that may help a bit...

http://www.wideopenwest.com/~wvg/DVD-A 1.htm

Markers in Vegas are a great way to go, easier sometimes to navigate the timeline and know where you need to put stuff. From the timeline in DVDA, find the place you want to create a marker and hit "M" - do this for all of them, name them and then create the submenu like USLatin suggested.

DVDA does things in some weird ways compared to some other authoring programs, but from the getgo, it was one of the easiest programs to use and rarely burned coasters.

Biggest suggestion is when you get to your submenu, if you move anything around, double & triple check the relation of each button to the ones above, below and to the side. DVDA isn't smart with this and sets everything based on the original default locations of buttons. Can get really confusing if you start moving things around for a more aesthetic look.

True -- button navigation can be annoying -- fortunately there are several ways to check on this, the easiest being the graphic interface where you drag arrows for where you want the navigation to go.

Just remember -- as Chenopup advises -- any time you move ANY buttons on a menu screen, recheck ALL of your button navigation.

You can easily create markers on DVD A, I found that it flew thourh the rendered file, so no need to do it in Vegas this time, unless you are still cutting your piece. You just use the orange wedge button in the timeline window.

Now what is it that you guys are worried about with the buttons?

Wow! lots of great suggestions here, thanks alot guys. I will give this a shot. And I'm done editing the film in Vegas. So it would be better if I could do the chapters in DVDA, I will give this a shot.

Thanks alot.

Update: I was able to follow your tip USLatin... works like a charm..

Thanks so much. Now knowing what I know, I'm gonna try and do some fancy menu button stuff.
