Create 24p in post?

As usual, mea culpa if this has been addressed before, yadda, yadda, yadda -

I'm wondering about creating 24p in post, rather than in camera. I would love to be able to shoot in standard mode and minimize light loss and then convert the footage in post.

Is this possible, and can it be done in FCP?

Thanks,

Robert

Well the quick and easy way I guess is shoot whatever you want, cut it at that rate, then once you have locked picture just copy and paste all of that over to a 24p timeline. It will only do a so-so job matching a filmic look or feel though, and hmm maybe even so-so is a bit high. I'd start shooting some tests and decide if its good enough for you.

cheers.

VaricamLife - baaaaaad idea to just drop 60i on a 24p timeline - multiple issues arise.

Yeah - the Nattress or Magic Bullet filters for within FCP, or custom Compressor presets (uses optical flow tech).

Mike,

Yah doesn't surprise me you'd say that. I was just going on, "it would work in theory" kind of deal there. And not something I'd ever actually do myself. So far haven't run into any situation myself like that (have the fortune to work for people that shoot for the final output in mind). Out of curiousity though, what kind issues happen if you try and make FCP do the conversion simply by means of sequence settings?

cheers.

Nattress filters and 24p conversion are awesome. Before my DVX, the grabs below were shot with the vx2000 and converted and cc'd in nattress' program.

Thanks, good suggestions. I already have Magic Bullet, and have been eyeing Nattress. Do you think there is a significant difference in quality doing it in post vs. in camera?
