Crashing...

FCP is crashing when I attempt to render some clips. Any suggestions as to why this is happening? The last time FCP locked up when I was rendering some clips resulted in my HD to crash and needed to be replaced! My Powermac G5 stayed in the shop for 2 weeks as they worked on it. Now I put FCP 5.0 on my computer today (borrowed it from friend till I get the one I actually paid for) and FCP is locking up again! What is going on?
 
when you reinstalled FCP did you remove all preferences and other file associated w/ FCP? Other than that, try a disk repair utility.
 
Well I transferred files from 4.5 over to my other drive when I installed 5.0. I also had the wrong drive punched up to be the capture drive so I changed that from the system drive to my other drive. It didnt crash anymore but was dropping frames! I tell ya, if its not one thing, its another!
 
Quick thing to check, do you have a CD or DVD loaded on your computer? For some very odd reason...every once and a while, my FCP crashes and if I have a DVD/CD loaded and eject it, FCP will load up normally and won't crash when you render out. It's very strange but it has happened numerous times and that solution has worked for me in the past.
