crashed FCPX won't open

so FCPX crashed while I was changing parameters in Motion of a title (echo) in FCPX. So I reset to original echo title and then went to compressor, thinking as I had fixed the timeline title problems I was also done with any issues. Nothing was happening so I submitted again (1080p presets to youtube/vimeo) And so the beach ball of death arrives and I felt forced to quit program. Then had to force quit everything and now fcpx won't open at all. It gets to 'around the project' that I was submitting to compressor and quits. Tried many many times. Obviously I don't know what I'm doing, there's a bug and/or I've got a computer problem. The Console warnings have popped up recently but…and…ah! What's it all mean?

So I've been busily copying my events and projects on my internal to my external drive thinking the way out is to re-install FCPX…as I obviously don't want to lose my projects and the three event files that I had foolishly left on my internal drive (before I got external)

Any knowledgable suggestions out there and/or hopeful hints?

Tell me you have rebooted? If you force quit something while rendering, it is possible for the render to be spooling in the background even though you can't see it working.

If rebooting hasn't solved the issue, definitely transfer the Final Cut Events and Final Cut Projects folders to another hard drive.

Indeed I've rebooted at least 15 times throughout the day. I'm thinking I probably quit during a rendering, as you're saying, last night as I put it into compressor and couldn't see anything going on…waited to still see nothing and so re-submitted to compressor, see nothing, so quit to go to bed. Wrong. My bad, as the kiddies these days say. So this morning I start the imac okay but fcpx just gets to the project I was working on and won't load any further. Need I say anymore or just hang me head in shame, jump off the balcony or uninstall/install fcpx? We get more than one install for our $299, I'm assuming

If it was me I would also check the creative cow forum. Also look up the Lynda.com instructors that teach FCP-X and see if they have a blog, if they do post your question there or write to them

If you are running Lion, it typically tries to "reopen" and "restore" the exact state of your applications anytime you open one. This could be the cause of the trouble because as it loads "incorrectly", Final Cut X crashes. I think there is a way to reboot Lion bypassing this feature, but I couldnt tell you how. I hope you got this resolved. I havent been on the forums in a while.

Have you tried trashing the FCPX preferences using the free Digital Rebellion preference manager? Seems to fix most of the FCP X crashing.

It may be a corrupt event. I would try Event Manager X and and turn off all the Events and restart. If FCPX starts then you know it's a corrupt event, then you can go thru the process of turning one on at a time until you find the corrupt event.

Thanks for replies. So I had to trash the project as even the backups crashed the program. Then I reset the parameters in Motion and finally FCPX stabled out and all's well. Recut the project anew and made it better! Good thing it was only five minutes long.
