I confirmed with these guys that it is compaiable with the hvx, I may be purchasing one of these in the next month or so. from the page it looks like a nice rig for the price, does the basics and is not to heavy, sounds like they sell a lot of them too.

I bought one of those when I still had my DVX100 and was able to migrate to the HVX200 with no difficulties. I found a used D&S MKIII tripod on eBay that was a perfect match for this jib. They also make one that is a little longer, the DVC250 and only costs a little more. See their website: www.Bargain-Camera.com
(and no, I have no connection to them--other than being a satisfied customer).

Very impressive Crane !! Probably the best on market...
But I have bought the Kessler because money...
But If I have money I jump on Adventa-Jib...

Anyone using an Advanta Jib with an HVX?? does the included remote work with it or is that to control the pan/tilt? Couldn't quite tell from their site. The crane looks suite though!!

I dislike the Cobra Crane and Kessler cranes for the fact that they mount on your tripod head. My next crane is the Advantajib.
Not obligatorily ! Kessler sell a special head for us with their crane... But yes Adventajib is very very good...

Thanks for all the thoughts, but I'm still torn whether to pick-up the Kessler or this Cobra.. the Advanta is way out of my budget...

Cool. Might have to go with this, still gotta do a little more research

Define heavy-duty tripod.. I have a 516 with 3192 sticks.. that should handle a crane like this, right?

I think 3192 is rated to support 22 lbs (although I may be wrong), not enough...

which brings me back to my earlier comment on the Davis & Sanford ETVGPF Mark III Tripod Legs. For those not fortunate enough to find one on eBay they are available NEW thru B&H (and probably others) for $500, rated to support 75 lbs and I can assure you from my experience they will support quite a bit more than that.

Puts the economy film type shooter in the saddle for right at or just under a grand (when paired with bargain-camera's DVC-250). Doesn't kill your high dollar sticks and head that were not intended for that kind of abuse . . . and will not collapse on top of your talent (or that new Lexus if you are doing automotile agency commercials).

best.

jester, you cant compare the advanta jib to a kessler or cobra, its like 4x the price. thats like saying i dont like hamburgers, lobster is better...

that crane aint that bad though, i got to play with one over the weekend, functioned pretty good.

Just keep in mind that Bargain Camera on the link to Ebay above is selling some of their kits with the Manfroto 501 head which is no where near able (or rather suggeste) to handle those kind of weights. I can't imagine them to last under that pressure and/or give you good smooth motion. also they are bundeling their cranes with 7" lcd on the higher packages. Probably not HD 7"lcd monitor and definitely not good resolution. (not good to focus with if you are looking at the remote controlled package also)
Just my thoughts.

Quickset makes some tripods which are capable of handling pretty serious loads. The gibraltar and samson can hold 400 and 200 lbs and can be found on ebay relatively cheaply. For a bit more dough jimmy jib and cameraturret. You put 100lbs of weight with 400 ft lbs of torque on a fluid head, you get what you deserve.

I just got an Advanta-jib for my HVX and it's great. The remote you're referring to (I think) is the wiring provided for the camera's controls, specifically a mini-plug for zoom and record. You'll need to have a remote controller of course, like the Varizoom ROCK-PZFI to use it. Then you'll need another extension cord ($15 at Radio Shack) to add the focus/iris control to the party.

The jib itself comes with a pan (cable actuated) and tilt (hydraulic) head that is controlled from the lever in the kit, which also is used to pan and tilt the jib arm itself. So with one motion you can do compound jib/head pans and tilts (which will take some practice to get good at). It's a very clever design, and by far the cheapest jib with a pan/tilt head that I know of.

It also folds up remarkably compact and is very light (I'd guess about 25 lbs) aside from the counterweights. With just my HVX, 2 P2 cards and a battery it requires 27.5 lbs of counterweight (I use ultra-cheap Wal-Mart barbell weights) with the 4' reach and 62.5 with the 7' reach. There's also a 10' reach option which I did not order.

I love it so far. Highly recommended.

It is hydraulic driven. My camera can be panned, tilted, all from the back. It can also be locked up top if you don't want it to tilt at all.
