I have the NC -1500 from NuAngle.com and have been pretty happy with it. It did need a few mods to it to make it stiffer but straight out of the box will work just fine. Best of all it was a little under $500.
BTW, I don't recomend using on a head mounted on a tripod, the unit far exceeds the max weight on my Bogen 503 head.
There were a lot of complaints about the cobra crane when using its extension arm with heavier cameras (like the dvx100!) on another forum. Which is odd, because Promax is a fine company. Any crane you decide on, make sure there is at least a 30 day no hassle return policy!

What do you suggest?

Check out the homemade crane thread in the hardware section.
Another good crane: http://www.cameracranes.us/
They connect to your existing (but appropriate) tripod. They work very well, and you'll have change left over for dinner and a movie for 30 of your closest friends.
A friend of mine has the Cobra Crane 1 PLUS and the counterbalance works very well. It's for cameras up to 6.5 lbs. You can add some great professional results to your project witn one of these or any other descent crane.
these guys are in the netherlands but their basic crane "The Artes" is a champ and probably the best built crane of its type that I've seen. Pricey at around $800 US not including shipping but very, very well built.
