Crane Design is coming along

Hey guys I just wanted to share a piece I made for my crane yesterday. - Its a combination of waterjetted parts (maybe $40 total) and some parts I made manually on my lathe.

Its a Panning base to replace the use of someones tripod head to take the heavy load of the crane. The base is incredibly overkill. (easy to do so when bearings can take such enormous loads) The base could probably handle over 1000lbs of weight.

It will be sold as an accessory to people that dont have a strong enough tripod head to take the weight of a jib with counterweights.

This is just the basic foundation for the jib. I swear I am close to releasing the final version lol.

Nice to see the progress. Did you draw the CAD file and then have a shop water jet it for you? $40 seems really reasonable (one piece or both?). I don't have a shop around here that can do water jet. For that price, I wouldn't bother firing up the CNC mill; I'd sent it to you're shop.

Did you media-blast the piece the sideplates are mounted on? I like that finish.

Actually there are 3 pieces, the 2 side plates and the piece sandwiched in between the 2 bearing caps. Yea it was probably $40-50 for those 3 pieces, and thats the finish right out of the machine, still could use some corner sanding. Yea I designed every piece in Solidworks then exported a dxf file and sent that to the waterjet. This is only a few of the pieces. Id estimate I have probably 25-30 pieces waterjet cut for every unit. around $100 for the raw metal alone.
