Crane Able to hold weight? I'm lookign at ProAm

It will hold, but it won't be possible to shoot nice and sturdy shots with that. If you ask me, waste of money, you'd be better off renting one, and that would be cheaper too if only for a couple days.

don't get the pro am. I got one a few years ago and I regret it, waste of $300. I used my bare Fx1 with it and it's pretty crappy. Save up some cash and get a proper jib or rent one.

No way any of the sub $1000 jibs would hold the weight without wobble. I have that Losmandy Porta-Jib and I would consider it solid but even then I'm still in the learning process on how to use a JIB to get the smoothest and slowest movements. Add a DOF adapter into the game and you´ll face quite a task.

Why Use 35mm Adapter on a Crane?

Why Use 35mm Adapter on a Crane?

I have the Pro-Am, and I have used the DVX-100a with the Anamorphic Adapter on it with few problems. Of course, I always have at least two other people working the crane with me to ensure steadiness, and I rehearse and shoot crane shots over and over because tape is cheap. Cranes require a lot of coordination, planning, and rehearsal, but when they work, man, do they.

Speaking for myself, I wouldn't put a 35mm adapter on a crane shot, mainly because of the usual wide-angles of a crane up or crane down. If you're planning a shallow D-O-F, then you might be better off using a platform where you can easily pull focus. If you have professional crane and control you can do this, but for a lo-to-no-budget crane, once you hoist the camera into the air, that's all folks.

Those great crane shots in big budget films take a lot of work and money.

I would go and rent a Seven Jib Arm....it should be really cheap to rent and Ive used it with all manner of S16 cameras.

I think they also have a model with a cable controlled tilt head.

Glidecam Camcrane wobbles with just a bare camera on it.

Look at the Kessler crane. I think that will be your best bet for $1000 or under. Any of single pole option cranes aren't very stable to begin with, let alone adding the components of a 35mm rig on top of that.
