Craigslist: Time to petition?

Look, I am absolutely in favor of have people needing free gig postings, but I am thinking there needs to be a split in the Crew Gig section. Paid and unpaid. Just having it at the end of the post is a bit useless and wastes peoples time.

I would never want to say "if it's a free gig don't post it", but what I want to say is separate them so if I want to peruse paying gigs I can, or if I am feeling generous, I can scroll through unpaid gigs.

But I am thinking it's time for there to be a different section. And, it will save people's frustration due to the flag-gestapo on Craigslist.

Anybody with me?

LOL, feel free to vote it "Best Of Craigslist" before it gets flagged. Copy and repost on CL. We have to end the Flag Wars.

If you repost, please post the link so people can mark it "Best of Craigslist". We have to start somewhere if we want to change something, and it starts with a single individual and goes from there.

Ahhh that was you. I voted best of CL. You are not the angry person that responds to every post he or she doesn't like and then sends private hate email are you?:D

Nope, I try to be as courteous as I want to be treated on CL. I have rarely flagged a post, and if anything try to assist posters. Yeah, I am a sucker.

LOL, flagged. Can't please anyone, can I?

Tried to establish a happy middle ground.

Feel free to repost:

I would never want to say "if it's a free gig don't post it", but what I want to say is separate them so if I want to peruse paying gigs I can, or if I am feeling generous, I can scroll through unpaid gigs. And it allows individuals who CAN work for free an option.

But I am thinking it's time for there to be a different section. And, it will save people's frustration due to the flag-wars on Craigslist. There are individuals here that are extremely protective of the work they do, and I completely understand their point. I spent a lot of money on my degree and worked years to have the level of experience I have in film-making. But I also understand the economy, being what it is today.

Anybody with me? Let's ask the Craigslist Admin to help us help each other. Separate the Crew Gig section in to paid and unpaid gig sections.
Enough people do this they will take notice. Otherwise, the alternative is to flag EVERY ad in Crew.

Being frank here, I hear a lot of frustration about CL here, and well, here's an option to be a part of the change you want to see. Help, or don't complain about CL.

Technically, the TV/Film/Video "Jobs" section is entirely for paid work, while the "Gigs" section is allowed to have unpaid work. And really, is it that hard to glance down at the bottom of the listing for the pay before you read through it?

Not trying to be a jerk. Just raising another point.

Please don't flag me.

LOL, but when you are looking for work..........looking at every post for that at the bottom gets to be a pain. Plus you have gigs listed as paid but not, and gigs listed as not paid that are.

And I see non-paid/intern gigs in the TV section all the time. People complain about the flagging, and part of me agrees. On the other hand, reading 4 paragraphs that outline......."I want a crew with the latest and greatest equipment, must have serious work history/IMDB, serious A-list talent attached, we are using the X-lot at X-studio, need to bring A game. We have 3 REDS on set to work with, etc, etc, etc."......................small note "no Pay" is a bit of a time vampire.

there should also be a psycho killer section and a non-pshycho killer section. that way you know before you apply.

Yeah, but is it paid killer or non-paid killer, that is the question. Never discriminate against the psycho's, they tend to have bad attitudes afterwards.

Can we just suggest a protocol that lists Paid or something like that that needs to be in the header/subject line? Sort of like the for sale and want to be headings in the market place? obviously it requires adoption by everyone. just a random thought

I'm on board with either, but realistically I would think this would have a better chance of making it... and it sounds like a good idea

Craigslist answered this request years ago. They started the Gigs section to give a place for NO-PAY jobs. Paying jobs should post in the jobs section and pay $25. They don't prohibit people from posting short-pay or piecework jobs in gigs, but the CL rep told me years ago: "don't expect to get paid much by someone who won't spring $25 for a real job listing."

Good example here from local Craigslist (another version, probably flagged, wanted the gaffer to also own sound equipment and do sound)
