How to translate Craigslist ads (actual ads translated below)

"Hello There

Looking to have someone do some simple split screen video editing for a music video cover that was shot on a couple of iphone 4s' and a flip hd. Don't need a ton of work really... and I pretty much have the creative direction worked through. Would like to travel to someone's studio and sit with them for 2 or 3 hours and knock it out. I'm a music producer and have tried learning final cut x for this and the magnetic timeline just will NOT do what I need to line these clips up with the audio. So after wasting 3 days trying to figure it out and reading threads... and finding out that many other people have the same problem, here I am.

The music is top notch production, and I just need the video to communicate the cover tune.

HERE'S THE CATCH - I NEED THIS DONE IN THE NEXT 48 HOURS.

Who's got some time to kill and will let me sit over there shoulder and tell you what I need? Quick $150 to anyone?

Email me with your cell and website or some sort of video reel link, your availability, preferably today, and I'll call you!"

Translation: Let me come over to your office, look over your shoulder and tell you exactly how to do this 10 hour project in 2-3 hours for $150. Even though I shot it on camera phones, I expect your work to be flawless and you will need to make my footage look like it was shot on Red. And finish in 48 hours.

Gaffer/Sound Tech Needed 3/14 - 3/15 $100
Date: 2012-03-13, 2:29PM CDT

Need Lighting/Sound Tech 3/14 - 3/15 for local comedy short film. MUST HAVE OWN EQUIPMENT; Softboxes, Field Recorder, Wireless Mics or Boom). $100 at the end of shoot + Copy/Credit/Food. Please email the above address if interested and available.

Translation: Please load up thousands of dollars of your equipment, transport it 40 miles to my location, work two 10 -12 hour days for me and I'll give you five bucks an hour, cold pizza and screen credit on a film that will never be seen by anyone!

Simple Music Video
Date: 2012-02-29, 5:40PM CST

HI!

Alright so this is mostly for students or someone just starting and learning the video production area. We have an up and coming country artist who just finished her EP. We want a simple video done where she's playing acoustically in a room with a couple guitar players. VERY SIMPLE. Not a huge production or anything fancy. If you go to Kellie Pickler's website and watch her "Mother's Day" acoustic video, that's what we're looking for.

She's an up and coming artist, signed to a dominant artist management company here in Nashville. We'd like to find someone who could do this free of charge or a small amount (of course you're going to be getting a lot of promotion and publicity from it being posted on her website, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, etc) that it very well may pay off in the end. PLUS you can add it to your portfolio and in 2 years pull it out when she's made it big and say you did this. ;) We'll be sure to plug your name and do what we can do for you in terms of making sure your name is behind your production.

If this interests you at all or you'd like to hear the song we're planning to use, definitely just reply and we'll get back to you.

This could most definitely lead to many more PAID gigs.

Translation: Please shoot a music video for us for free, cause one day we will be famous. Really! And, because one day we might actually have money to pay you. Or maybe not.

LOL! This is just hilarious.

What's funny is that I actually saw most of these ads, as I am in the area as well. I may get some funny ones up soon.

Eh, not that funny, but whatever...

"We are shooting a low budget documentary between March 30 and April 2 in the Wartburg and Petros areas of eastern Tennessee. We are in need of several camera operators - preferably those that
can also provide a high definition digital camera (dslr, hi Def camcorder, professional camera, etc.) This will be a unique but challenging shoot. We need operators
that can be left alone in remote areas with instructions. The shoot may involve hiking, camping, shooting around the clock for periods of time (night and day.)
These operators should be comfortable in the outdoors and able to self motivate. You may not be near any services (food, water, restroom) for several hours at a time and should
be able to bring needed supplies to the shoot.

There will be pay but we are still determining what we have to give.
You must be able to provide your own transportation to and from the locations.

Thank you."

Translation: We need you to pack up your expensive camera gear and drive all the way to the middle of nowhere in the eastern hills of Tenessee to shoot B-roll. We need you to go alone and fend for yourself, also bringing along all of your own food and supplies. There will be pay, but we're just going to say we are still determing because such a low amount would push potential operators away.

So this is a web series waiting to happen.

Actually showing up to these "jobs", with a small hidden crew, and documenting what goes down.

Interesting. Considering the "set" will probably be chaos, show up with your camera and roll immediately on everything. You'll get a good few hours of footage before you even have to roll on the project you were "hired" for.
