HI everyone,
I just bought a PC for my Christmas present ;), but the guy who sold it to me, told me it was a "monster PC", but I dont really feel it is. I dont know if the configuration has something wrong.
So I appreciate your help me by writing a really good PC configuration to use with After Effects ? or can un telll meif my PC is a Christmas scam?

My Configuration is:

1 Intel Serverboard S5520SC
2 intel Xeon Server/Workstation processors 5500 Series (2.26GHz,Core 1.6V, Cache 8MB, HT technology.)
6 GB RAM DD3 Memory (2GB each slot)
1 NVIDIA QuadroFX 3800
3 HDD (System 250GB - 1TB - 1 TB)

Regards,
Rod

yeah thats monster.

are you sure thats what you've actually got given though?

how many processors are listed in the device manager?

Yep Im sure . Got the box of everything hehe.
the device manager shows 16 processors icons, I suppose thats because the HT tech.

But still dont feel that "super power" .

You should configure RAM in 3x2 for those CPU's "Nahalem 5500" - so I'd up it to 12GB (2GBx6 slots or 1GBx6 slots)
Also tweak your "Multicore Rendering" in AE with AE Cache/Prefs.
Hmmm... sounds logic... I have 9 slots availiable.... but Im running Win XP 32bits OS... (as I am writing this I realize maybe this is one of the main problems, or not?)

-ive already modified the AE Multiprocess prefs. an yep it speed it up but sincerly not as a "monster" of this type should do.

Thanks!

try and install a 64bit XP version, only then you'll have your full 6 GB RAM power available.

Also not that many programs will be able to utilise 16 cores (8 physical, 8 HT).

So for things that only support one processor, it will act like a single 2.26 ghz processor.
For programs that support Dual, a dual core 2.26ghz processor and so on...

32bit windows is limited to max. 4GB RAM overall and a single process can only use a max of 2 GB RAM so AE should be limited to 2GB RAM

So to unleash more of your monster's RAM and core power you'll have to run AE on a 64bit system.
