CP Super 16mm Rental Business - Opinions??

I have a CP16R. And some Optar Illuminas. If I got this converted to Super 16mm, does anyone think I would be able to rent this?

If so, how much per week?

I have had this camera for 7 years. I haven't made a film in 10. The thing is just sitting in a case in my closet.

I know I will have to keep the thing maintained really well, but if I could rent it out and just make some money on it, it would be nice. Afterall, right now it is not making any money.

Not looking to get rich, but if it could bring in some income, it would be nice.

Thoughts?

Honestly, I don't think there's enough demand to keep that camera working constantly. Among working DPs, the CP16 is not exactly a first choice for a camera.

This ignores the fact that the DVX and SDX, F900 and Varicam have already taken a huge chunk out of 16mm production. I know people with full blown 16SR2 packages that work tons otherwise, but the SR is gathering dust.

S16 is so expensive to shoot, telecine, and edit that it usually makes better sense to go with a modern camera that has all the bells and whistles since the cost of camera rental is rather insignificant in the grand scheme of things. Plus, CP16 is more a camera that anyone can afford to own. Not always the case with a 100k Aaton package.

Yeah, I've got a CP16 in the garage, haven't pulled it out of its case in probably a year and a half. Standard 16 is in very low demand, and if someone wants Super16 they usually want an Arri or Aaton. I wouldn't spend the money to upgrade a CP to S16; that'd cost you around $2,500 to do. Instead I'd say sell it, put the cash from it plus the $2,500 you would have spent all towards an HVX. Rush has his rented out for three weeks solid at $305/day. In other words, by the time he gets them back they'll be paid off free & clear.

Thanks y'all.

I am getting an HVX, I was thinking about renting it out too. What would be a really good rate?

Let's say, with a 4gb card?
