Cowboys & Aliens

tmnt

King of Australia
!!!!!!!!! SPOILERS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great movie, had a blast! Was surprised at how much sci-fi was in this movie, really cool.Well acted by everybody.

Daniel Craig's accent was fine to my ears and he's a good leading man.Liked how it didn't take too long for the aliens to appear, no hour wait in this movie.

Aliens could have been smarter but hey, still had fun.

3.75/5. Good, manly fun.

I want to see this, but feel somehow put off by how, well, uninspired the title sounds... Is it "B" movie enough? I expect camp, over the top action with A list actors and comedy...Any comedy? Or does it take itself too seriously?

No, it's not done as a big hollywood B movie. Very little (if any) comedy. There just happens to be aliens in this movie.

I thought the movie was solid though, didn't get bored and actions scenes were good.

Instead of chosing b+w for flashbacks the director chose to use kind of oversaturated/bright colours. Neither here nor there, worked ok.

That's interesting! Will see it soon. It has probably the greatest sounding cast for a film with such a name. "Indiana Jones and James Bond vs Aliens".

I agree tmnt this was a fun movie. Even if there were no aliens this movie would have made a great Western. But the alien mix made it that much more interesting for me. All the lead and supporting actors played their roles well. I especially liked Harrison Ford's role. Maybe because there were a few touches of Indiana Jones in certain (i won't give it away) scenes.

I was surprised how well the aliens looked, and that they appeared in daytime they actually looked real some movies it's like the aliens only show up in the dark masked in with the scene.

Was just thinking, one thing I didn't like in the film which is kind of a biggie is how the good guys planned to take out the aliens, it was ok in theory (sorta) but how the implemented it ie. cowboys getting slaughted down below, was a bit silly. Not a deal breaker though.

I just looked at it as them not having a real big picture of what they were coming up againts.

It was bad and very weird how cowboys reacted, i mean they acted like crashed alien spaceship is no biggie, nobody even tried to disassemble it and nobody asked main lead whats that thing on his hand, come on this was hilarious, so much money and such script.Woman was not needed at all and his wife kidnapping looked so funny, like from some super mario game she was pulled with strings*

*Just look at this and how they react seeing moonwalk, this is how cowboys should react and i love this scene

different times, people are smarter these days and some movies just wont work anymore .
It could of been amazing movie but it wasnt, just imagine how you would react seeing spaceship crashing near you.
Also in army of darkness it was shown properly how people reacted to ash and his boomstick, it was something they did not understood and i liked it but in this cowboys and aliens i didnt felt that it was real wild west long time ago, there was so much ignorance going on to all amazing things onscreen happening, its sad that it wasnt done properly.

He he..you guys really need to learn to suspend reality. :)

Well you see this excuse being used as a logical argument more and more (same thing was said on the thread about that pile of dross called Suckerpunch). So long as people keep making excuses for poor storytelling then filmmakers will keep creating films to cater for the lowest denominators.

I don't think the movie had unrealistic reactions from the cowboys.
If aliens landed in my backyard I would definately act differently than a real cowboy decades ago beause I'm aware of the theory called aliens.
They didn't know what to make of them. They just called them monsters or demons because they didnt know better.
Totally believable in my book.

Noooooo... demons like animals ? They knew some wild animals for sure but this was completely different and out of this world, some cowboys should be amazed by big AAAA and some should be scared but ive seen none of that.Spaceships, laser weapons, noooo... it was completely ignored by cowboys and his hand as well , hilarious mistake IMO.In wild west they would be all over his hand all the time and he himself as well.

Right Boncrek.

#SPOILER#

My reaction would have been the same as the townspeople especially if they took a loved one of mine...I'd be frightened but I would have still fought them back. There would be no time to investigate what they are...who they are...etc. Just give me back what's mine. Seeing how the creature was wounded and running scared would have empowered me to go after the punk myself. That's exactly what they did...but they found out quickly that they were in over thier heads.

Now the only real problem (as far as realistic reactions) is when that woman/creature rose out of the ashes butt-nekkid...in the nightime. I would have been frightened by that sight (I don't think the Indians would of been though).

@simpwood To each his own I guess. I liked the story myself. Like I said...it could have been just a cowboy movie (without the aliens) and it would have still worked.

Synopsis: This story takes place in the wild west where a highly organized group of thugs terrorize small villages and towns by kidnapping men, woman and children forcing them into the slavetrade. After embarking upon the simple town of Blah Blah the terrorists realize they are in over their heads when the townspeople decide to fight back.

...or something like that..... :)

+1

My thoughts exactly.

If I saw Olivia Wilde butt-nekkid, I'd have a few reactions but fear wouldn't be one of them...Shoot, I'd risk a couple third degree burns just to get a closer look.

I highly doubt* that anyone would ignore crashed alien spaceship and wouldnt want to take a look inside, just look what is happening when there is a car crash on the streets or accident, a lot of people immediately are coming closer to see what happened.
*It would not hurt to include scene where at least one person would try to disassemble something from spaceship to use it against aliens, he could fail but it would be more realistic for me cause people ignoring things like that is just hilarious, this was wild west, not today, and even today many people would be shocked and i think even more today would be shocked seeing real crashed spaceship because term UFO didnt existed back then, for a lot of people today that would mean "so we are not alone" and it would be shocking.
*There would be time to fight but there would be a lot of investigation, too bad this movie didnt showed any invstigation from anyone at all, they took alien invasion like if it was happening daily from 20 years, no biggie we will just fight them like last time yyyiiiihaaa.
So seeing naked woman closer is more interesting than asking her how she survived fire like this and came back to life ? She would be like god back then.

It's not hard for the Indians to believe in a 'spirit' from another place so think that's fine. The rebirth of the girl was the moment I was talkin about in my initial post when I said this was more sci-fi than I had expected.
