Cowboys & Aliens

Wow. Now this is a good trailer. Atmospheric. Intriguing. And doesn't give away half the storyline. This looks far darker and cooler than I ever thought a movie with a dopey title like Cowboys & Aliens ever would. I thought it would be a tongue in cheek jokefest, but they seem to be keeping the tone fairly serious. Or it could just be a really good trailer. I do have to add that the story seems somewhat reminiscent of Outlander, though.

Wow. Gotta say this trailer has me hooked.

EDIT:

Man I knew harrison was in this film, yet for some reason I didn't recognize him. Maybe it's the bad compression, but he looked and sounded a bit like Tom Wilkinson. At times I thought it was some new actor and other times I thought it was Tom Wilkinson. Weird...

Not Wilkinson, but I couldn't figure who he reminded me of at first...but now I have: Dennis Quaid! Watch it again, notice the 2:15 mark!

****ing weird.

It also seems reminiscent of about 5 comic books I read in the 80s.

I think this would be amazing if I went in knowing nothing about the aliens and they just ****ing showed up in a Western. As it is, after 3/4 a year of hype, I will likely be sick of it by the time it actually comes out :)

I have to agree the trailer is pretty good. Makes me want to see it. I thought it would be cheesy too, judging by the trailer I could not be more wrong. I didn't like either of the Iron Man movies but this one looks good.

Outlander was awesome. To me it was the true spiritual successor to Predator, and much better than the recent Predators, as well as being the most enjoyable film adaptation of Beowulf that we've gotten thus far.

Such a shame that film was buried in distribution hell.

I all ready know that this movie cannot be as awesome as the Aliens in Monty Python's Life of Brian:

I saw it and, personally, I was very unimpressed with the lighting/camerawork. It didn't seem like Favreau was able to capture the scope of most westerns through the cinematography and instead relied on cliched staples of Western characters to carry the story.

Thought the film was ok - enjoyed it as a mindless summer blockbuster; however I guess it didn't really meet my expectations as a Western

My wife was out in New Mexico when it was being shot. She met a number of the cast and crew and was impressed with the attempt to capture a bit of the old west. I liked it a lot at a screening and enjoyed the commentary. Good amount of fun.

I liked it, but agree that it paled next to a John Ford style western from a tech standpoint. It felt like it was shot on a ranch instead of one of the monument-worthy locations Ford would have chosen. Harrison was fantastic and I thought Craig played the man with no name very well. Olivia Wilde... yeah... very good.

I thought it was great. A fantastic blend of Western meets Science Fiction. Not an easy thing to do and I thought they did it extremely well.
Ford was great! As was just about everyone else in this film. Hell, even the little kid did well with what he was given.

The Aliens looked really good. I wasn't constantly looking at them and thinking 'CG' so that's a good sign.
The story was simple but it had everything it needed. Really good performances, very strong cast.

Just a fun action flick with a little heart. One of the better movies this summer as far as I'm concerned.

It wasn't any more than what I expected. A decent summer flick. Not many surprises though, and the alien designs were pretty generic. You could swap out these aliens for the creature in Super 8 and not notice a difference. It's one of those movies that does exactly what is advertised but not an ounce more and doesn't really excel in any way. That said I enjoyed it more than Captain America or Super 8.
