Cowboy studio redhead kit

I read through the stickies in the lighting section and saw no mention of either Cowboy or red heads. So I did a search in the lighting section -- found only 6 threads with 'cowboy', 3 of which were actually about cowboys. The others were the discussions we've had in the last few days here.

So I did a Google search of the site for "red head". Found a couple of posts where people mentioned using red heads on their shoot, but no negative comments.

The Cowboy Studio lights probably are junk, but as of now I can only find a couple of people who've used them and were dissatisfied, and a couple of people who seem to have used them without mentioning any problems.

They're certainly not Lowels or Arris or even Mole-Richardsons. But as a temporary measure until something better can be afforded, or as maybe accessories in a better equipped lighting kit, they may -- and I emphasize may -- be okay. I don't know.

It would be great to hear from more people who have them or have used them. As well as any other inexpensive lights.

As with anything else, the wise buyer should do exhaustive research before making a decision.

For now, I'm going to find somebody who'll make me a set of barndoors for my worklights.
 
I ALSO did countless searches on google/here/and several other sites and I have seen very little mention of these lights. The only place I was able to find any decent information on them was on dvinfo where the folks there that had them stated that they worked just fine.

I didn't buy them because they were the most heavy duty lights on the planet. I just needed something that would last a few months to finish my shoot and then I really don't care if they burn out.. they cost 165.00 right? I treated them like they were newborn infants. They shouldn't have just died for no reason. If they do, then how in the heck is cowboy studio even in business? Surely they couldn't be if all they sold was lights that burn out 2 days after using them.

On that same token. I have some of those "crappy ebay lights with doodads and all that jazz" and they work amazingly well. I've had 0 problems with them and I've used them heavily. The thing is, there isn't much to them.. its just a light socket with a CFL in it.. so less room for them to "break". Some of the best TV's and electronic devices I have ever owned have been cheap brands. Every Sanyo tv I've ever owned has lasted long past its prime, however an RCA tv I bought not even a year ago.. is already dead.

If there is all this info about "warning" people not to buy these particular lights.. where is it? Because I've yet to find it.

Just a note, I have sent both lights back and they immediately told me they would replace them or issue me a refund. No questions asked. I opted for a replacement. They have good customer service so I want to give them a chance to rectify the situation with working lights. If they die again.. you can believe I will be putting my money somewhere else.
