Covering Myself

So I am going in to do an in field shoot soon and I am thinking that my setup will be a G2 setup http://www.google.com/products/cata...og_result&ct=result&resnum=5&ved=0CFUQ8wIwBA#

with a TR50.

My question is, what is a good backup option to have here? I am going to be getting this audio undercover so no booms or anything obvious wont work...any ideas on a more reliable solution to make sure that I am getting good audio?

Thanks in advance for any help.

ok so that probably won't work then. I am going to need a totally wireless solution, probably wont be able to plug in to an outlet. A setup I had a while ago had just a wireless transmitter and lav linked to a receiver that plugged into the XLR on my camera...can the G3 do that?

And also, what is a good backup plan to have that is inconspicious. Another type of mic?

Sorry for the elementary questions but I am new to the audio game...thanks for any help you can provide me with.

From whom are we trying to hide things? Are you doing "Candid Camera" where the "actors" shouldn't see the audio gear? (What about the camera(s)? Or are the "actors" complicit and your are trying to conceal the production gear from others (i.e. "guerilla production"?) Or are you doing a period/costume production where the sight of any technology would be out of character? Suggestions for those various scenarios would necessarily be rather different.

Where are you located? The units depicted on THAT page are 700mHz band units, illegal for use in the USA.

The G2 & G3 systems come in several variations. It just happens that the one's YOU linked to use an AC powered receiever. Other packages (now G3, the G2 is discontinued) include the battery powered camera-mount receiers.

Ah, see that's why I love these forums. Would have had no idea about that if it weren't for you.

So it looks like I'm gonna need a G3 setup that doesn't need an AC unit and can just run on batteries. I think that would be my ideal setup. I will look around for that one.

Also, what do you guys think about making sure I am covered with another type of inconspicious microphone? Maybe some type of voice recorder or other microphone? I just don't want to depend solely on a wireless mic for the audio, want to make sure I have another source to record from. Do you guys have any idea?

As far as what I am recording, the idea is to make sure that they don't know they are being recorded as its going to be an undercover situation, similar to candid camera.

You may have your hands full just trying to get good sound for the primary system without worrying about a secondary backup system. What is your proposed method of deploying your TR50? How do you intent to get it close enough without alerting the subject(s)?
