Thanks Mino! I'm really trying to find a unique niche with headshots, my strategy has been to compose a more theatrical look or subtext within the frame, not the typical industry standard found with other headshot photographers around town. It seems to be working, my business has doubled over the last month. We'll see I guess. Onward!

I'd suggest some different focal lengths though, every one of these headshots you've shown over the past few months is lit the same way, and shot at almost the exact same focal length with the same thirds composition.

Spice things up!

Nah, I like them the way they are, not to mention it's the Agents that dictate the trend. As of now this is it. But thanks!

Way to stick to your guns Alveraz! I love your head shots because they are revealing a personal style. If I see one of your head shots and didn't know who on these boards shot it I could very well guess that it was probably you.

I find it funny when I post a pic I like a lot I'll often get zero or less than zero feedback. Then, I'll post a pic I hardly like. Its THOSE photos I always seem to get positive comments on. lol. figure that one out. Different strokes I guess...

You've got that right! I find exactly the same thing. I think that there are a lot of Dilettants on the forums here. I like the headshots. There is texture and life to them.

Thanks guys, comments like that keep me inspired. I know my shots aren't the greatest and many around here like to pick them apart, but I enjoy sharing them here anyway. I know it's not very artistic, my objective is to stretch it as far as possible while still maintaining a simple standard. But I'd like to think I inject a little life into them and do my best to help these actors get in the door. So far it seems to be working.

One thing to keep in mind is, if I stray too far and as suggested "spice things up" I take the risk of losing the Agents that recommend me to their actors. Not to mention, Agents don't want spice, they want a clear shot of the head (eyes in particular), with little distractions. Keeping that simplicity without being boring is not as easy as it looks.

Thanks again!

I'm digging your shots, man. I hate the flat-lighting style of most headshots. They bore the crap out of me.

Aleveraz, I understand where your coming from now, before I didn't really take into consideration the agents side, plus like you said keeping a consistent style will help people recognize your work more easily.

Lighten up guys, I still think his photos are awesome.

No sweat man, I figured you didn't really know my angle, many don't, they just assume I like to take repetitive shots of random people :)

Thanks again guys for the support, it really does help.

I agree! That was my initial reason for diving into this, I looked around at all those flat shooters and was like, that's terrible! The other thing I thought about was, when I cast actors for the films I direct I always dig the headshots that give me an idea of how this actor may look on screen. Those flat, studio shots show me how they look in... flat, studio shots. Anyway.
