Countryman EMW vs. AT 899

Hi guys -- any thoughts on these two wired lavs? Anyone prefer one to the other?
Anyone have an even cheaper option that they would recommend? These are both in the just-under-$200 range on B&H.

I'm on a minimal budget, looking to pick up a decent "entry level" wired lav. My projects are generally low or no budget, and I haven't cultivated a very descriminating ear yet. Just looking for something that will serve me well for small projects as I continue to get more experience...

I think both are respected enough to do you well.

I have an 899 that I've used for interviews where I mount the mic externally. I just picked up two EMW's for times when I want to wire the mics underneath the clothes.

I also have an AT 831b that's less expensive. It's OK, but I greatly prefer the 899 to it.

the emw is around 150 , its completely pro mike in excellent price - no need to change in the future

For anyone who has an EMW mic, is there any writing or markings that designate it between the flat, shelved, and peaked models? I'm going to be ordering a peaked version of the EMW for my MM400B wireless and I'm a little paranoid that I'll get the wrong one and not even know it.

get the shelved ,it has 4db bump , that's enouth for normal under clothing placing and outside pick up

Thanks for the advice. I was set on the peaked version after getting a bunch of advice from people on one of the newsgroups - I just re-read my NG post and realized I should have been more specific about what type of clothing the mic would be under... After reading your reply I contacted Countryman and they gave me the same recommendation as you.

Countryman said the peaked version would be good for use under heavy clothing and the shelved version would be fine under a regular thin t-shirt. Also that I should choose the shelved in case I need to use the mic on the outside of clothing.

I think I'll ask them to be a little more specific with their product literature. After reading it I was under the impression the peaked would best for my needs.

Anyway, thanks for keeping me from buying the wrong mic!

I'm not sure what you mean.

Originally you recommended taping it on the body. Are you referring to the part where you mentioned the alternative of putting the mic on a shirt and putting another shirt over it?

if he would sweat badly the mic would not hold , 2 tishirts might be good if the cheast is full of hair
