Countdown to DVX

Hi Everyone,

I'm finally gearing up (no pun intended) to buy my DVX100A in about a months time. I'm based in Toronto and wondering what would be the best way of purchasing one. Locally it looks like DVShop (dvshop.ca) has the best price - $4950 CAD. Am I missing some place in TO? Or do you think shipping from the States is a better idea?

I've been lucky enough to be shooting on the DVX100 a few times in the past year and it's been great. So has seeing the work posted here. Thanks to all for the tips, tricks and knowledge.

Re: Countdown to DVX

Actually looking to buy brand new. I've never ordered anything from the States before..nothing that expensive anyway. Just wondering if it's best to stick to local buying or order from say EVS.

Re: Countdown to DVX

I've had no problem buying from the US, I just got a Fed Ex account and buy from a reputable dealer like EVS or B&H. Get insurance for the shipping!!!!

Re: Countdown to DVX

Do you save more setting up an account? What about all the charges? I always get so confused with customs. My understanding it works as:

Price of product US (converted to CAD with current xchange rate) + Provincial taxes (IE: Ontario 15%) + shipping + brokerage fees?

Is that right? I guess I'm just trying to see if it's cheaper in the end to order from the U.S or just buy here in Toronto.

Thanks again.

Re: Countdown to DVX

Shipping is way cheaper....no provincial taxes or duty...with your Fedex I believe brokerage fees are free. Give Fedex a call to get more details.

Re: Countdown to DVX

Hmm i thought provincial and federal tax is tacked on when the item enters the province just as if you had bought it here?

Sorry for all the questions.

Re: Countdown to DVX

Really? That would be great if I can avoid being tacked for the 15%. Clause with who? Fedex?

Re: Countdown to DVX

Or wait I think I remember reading that you don't have to pay PST on items if you have your own company. That sort of makes sense.
