Countdown Timer Overlay

Hey guys, I need to make a cool video background for a 30 minute pre-live show countdown. I've got the video end taken care of, but I need say a 30 minute countdown to overlay over this that shows hours, minutes, seconds...

Is there a way to get an auto countdown overlay?

Lay down a 30 minute slug.
Add this effect: Effects/Video Filters/Video/Timecode Generator.
Play clip backwards.
Composite over your scene.

I can't seem to lay down a 30 minute slug; only 1 minute max. Further, it looks kind of... ugly. Is there a better plug-in, filter, or effect to do this, one where I can better control the look of the font, etc.? I want it to look slick...

I also have Adobe CS3 master collection. I can use motion, After Effects, whatever, I just want it to look cool.

when you create a slug, adjust the duration in the little time display window
in the upper left corner of the viewer. do this before you drag it into the timeline.

slick? why don't you make a looped movie (using the your favorite font,
special glint effects, appropriate alpha mask) of numbers going from 9 to 0?
you could do this with most video software ( fcp text generator, for example)
then lay four of those looped movies out in FCP--with different onscreen
locations and different start times--so you have a nice little counter.

voilà!
