Could this be an issue?

A while back a relative came to me asking for some help with a short film for a film elective she was taking in college. She came to me with the general idea and while we both put in some good time from that point on I was pretty heavily involved with the pre-production.

The original agreement between us was after we wrapped shooting we'd both cut our own versions of the film. I'd be able to do whatever I wanted with my cut and she'd just show her class and get her good mark. I'm now in the process of getting music rights for the film and entering it into competitions and her teacher is pressuring her to enter the film into the campus' film fest.

My biggest concern is if this could in any way harm me trying to get my films into competitions especially when her cut lists my relative of doing all the jobs I did (directing, writing, etc...)

From your description of what happened, it sounds as if your relative was plagiarizing work for her class (i.e., passing off someone else's work as her own). You were essentially doing (part of) her homework/term paper for her.

It doesn't look like things were too clearly laid out at the beginning as to whose property this was going to be. If it were me in this situation, I'd just consider my involvement as uncredited contribution, forget about any further development/exploitation of the project, and move on to what's next (with parameters more clearly expressed). I can imagine someone alerting the faculty of the college about this, but that has a potential for turning out ugly.
