Could someone confirm these 24PA settings?

Hi all, I've read lots of posts and done lots of research and this is the workflow I've come up with for our documentary. The eventual delivery format will be HD, with the possibility of a film blowup. Almost all the footage for the film (except for archival material and stuff shot in low light) was shot in 24PA. We have 2 edit suites, one to capture and the other to edit.

We WERE removing the 2:3:3:2 pulldown on the fly, but our 2nd edit suite is an older G4, and I found it was coming up with lots of errors (as mentioned in some of these other threads). So now I'm capturing regular 29.97 and removing the pulldown in FCP using Tools>Remove Advance Pulldown. This is working well, but I am worried that I am changing the clip so that it will be difficult to recapture, which we may have to do for our HD online...when I apply the Advance Pulldown feature, it does change the media start/media end fields in the browser, and I'm concerned this process is not reversable.

And why not simply do all this AFTER the edit? ie, reverse the Advance Pulldown to the clips that are in the edit? Can anyone think of a reason not to do this?

Re: Could someone confirm these 24PA settings?

we had issues on a dual 800 g4, removing the pulldown of the 24pA on the fly - we also captured _not_ using the dvx100, but rather a jvc mini-dv deck.

all in all, we upgraded to a dual 1.8ghz G5, and have recaptured on the fly, using the dvx100 (just to be safe) all is well... so far...

As we're probably staying ntsc, so I had thought we probably should've either shot 24p (standard) - or, captured at 29.97 and post removed the 2:3:3:2 pulldown would have given us greater flexibility.

as more people complete, more challenging projects, there will be a better knowledge base.

good luck!
