Could not unmount disk??? Hard Drive formatting

I just got a simpletech pro drive. I have a iMac. I followed the instruction. It takes you to disk utilities and then to erase the disk. But it didn't work.

I got a message that said.

Disk Erase failed with Error

Could not unmount disk

Does anyone know what that means??
