yeah, the attention span for love stories pretty low for most. I know I wouldn't want to watch and see that much.

especially since the interviews may not be all that. I think you would be lucky to get some good stuff out of them. A lot of people don't interview well. Just try to capture the feeling, not the whole story. Most likely its boring anyway, hahahahaha.

But remember, there isn't really any overhead other than tapes and gas, so what your charging is what you feel your time and talent are worth.

(I'm alway's bombarded with stupid people saying that uncle joe will film and then I can edit it on my new computer cause it came with windows moviemaker) Thats bull, it cost's what it does cause you provide results not obtainable from a cheap cam and program. and we've already invested time in learning and cash in proper equipment.

what else is overhead?

-editing time (20-130 hours???)
-depeciation on editor ( okay, sounds lame, but all that computer time will wear on your joints, eyes, back, etc.) maybe this is worker's comp stuff.
-health insurance
-equipment insurance
-equipment (marketing, shooting, delivery equipment)
-equipment maintenance
-equipment depreciation
-computer equipment ( hardware & software, upgrades!@##$$!@)
-computer equipment depreciation
-raw music (liscences, libraries )
-music searching time
-equipment purchasing time ( you need to be paid for your time in taking the time to buy all the right gear and materials- dvds, cases, tapes, printing equipment)
-expendables ( tape, batteries). you need a lot of these to get through a long day
-wear & tear on your vehicles
-vehicle maintenance
-office maintenance ( even the electricty adds up, air conditioning, etc.)
-preparation time ( for you to check your gear before the shoot. for you to figure out the locations, day of schedule, sometimes include rehearsal attendance or site surveys)
-re-pack time ( for you to put away your gear after the shoot and make reports of equipment problems, failures, issues)
-client maintenance time ( for you to figure out what they want. for you to fix problems. this can add up to A LOT)
-marketing raw costs (websites, paper goods, stationery, demos, any adverts)
-marketing time ( networking, actual marketing production, networking)
-payment processing time (for you to make the deposits, etc)
-payment processing costs ( bank accounts, credit cards)
-business finances time ( taxes, city, state, federal, etc)
-business fees ( liscences, taxes)

notice the word TIME is in there a lot. If it is so fun or rewarding for you that you can sort of let some hours go...then think about your loved ones and other ways you want to be spending your time.

of course I am forgetting a lot of other things...but now I am out of time.

poohs list is good, the reason many businesses fail is due in part to forgetting some or all of these overhead items when providing estimates and determining prices

Based on Pooh's list, I'm going back and charge the bride $1,000,000 - I never should have done it as a favor! D'oh!
