Correcting Underexposed Video

Sorry, had to let my sense of humor out.

For an Avid system, or any system, just add a color correction plugin and give it as much gain as necessary.
 
The footage I have is very underexposed (the result of shooting against a very bright sky). I have tried various color correction tools - the best result i get is very very grainy. I've used various filter to try to reduce the noise / grian but the result is still awful.

Any magicians out there?

pretend that you actually wanted the footage to be darker and change the editing to match your artistic decision.
