correct look

Hey. I'm color correcting with FCP, everything is going fine except this...I'm hooked up to a TV, not a true monitor. The only true monitor I have is a Sony 7" field production monitor. I know the TV isn't giving me true readings because I watched my film on my 54" and it looked much darker then my 20". ANy ideas as true monitors, especially in the 13"+ range cost so much...? Thanks..

Put some color bars up and calibrate the brightness and contrast using the three small grey bars in the lower right. They are blacker than black, black and lighter than black. Adjust the contrast to approxamtely the middle (depending on lighting and age of the TV). Then adjust the brightness until blacker than black and black fade to one color and you can just barely see lighter than black. Once you have that set your luminance should be somewhat close.

For adjusting your monitor's color, you can use some stron blue gels to fake a "blue only" mode. Do a search for how to do that.
