Hey guys, I'm spending the next year working on my first full length movie and wanted to have some confusion over copyrights cleared up.

Firstly - cars. Can cars appear in my film and not infringe on copyright? I mean, if we hide any sign of the logo, would that be fair game? Or if I show a Mazda, I'd have to get rights to show that car?

And I plan to shoot a few scenes at the grocery store I work at. I'm pretty worried over logos from the various products showing up in the background. Have you guys shot in an area where you had to avoid situations like this?

Thanks guys!

Logo's in the grocery store should be fine, their public access so as long as you have permission to film there, you'll be fine. (I emailed big film commisioners about this and got 3 answers all the same).

As far as cars go I think it's fair play, you're only doing the companies a favor by advertising, unless you intend to damage the car in the film.

Depending on what you're doing with the cars may be an issue. But I had got clearance from Ford (just as an independent guy doing a little skit for a DVD) and Ford's rep OK'd it.

You just had to pass it by them? Was any money involved? There's nothing crazy, characters will just be driving their cars.
