Copy Event with only Proxy-Files to another Drive: How to do?

Hello everybody!
I have a question concerning media-management in FCPX: I shot a short film on the new red scarlet, transcoded that files to 4k ProRes 4444 and imported them into a FCPX Event and let FCPX make Proxies from the 4K-Files. All that Files are on a 2TB-Drive that is connected through eSATA with my MBP.
Now I want to edit the short with the proxies and relink only at the end to the 4K files. If possible, i'd like to have a copy of all the proxies on the MBP-Drive, so I can also edit when my MBP is not connected to the external drive. Is that possible, and if yes, how do i handle that best? My concern is, that when i edited a project that links to the proxie-files on my MBP, i won't be able to reconnect adequatly to the 4K-ProRes Files on the external drive... Could that be a problem?

You can always relink media as you wish now with 10.0.3 just like we did in 7.

I'd have transcoded Scarlett to ProRes HQ, saved some drive space, and some CPU/GPU processing since Scarlett doesn't record alpha channels.

But yes, copy the Project folder to the MBP internal drive (does it really have enough room for all of that?), then the Event folder with only the Proxies, not the originals.

I'm sure there's a glitch in the process somewhere that someone with more hands-on with Scarlett will point out, but remember you can always Re-Link media now with 10.0.3.

Thanks for the fast answer. Copy the Project folder is not a big deal, as i always have background-render turned off (so the Project folder newer got that big up to now). But copy the event folder with only proxies - do you do that in FCPX or in the finder? I tried to duplicate the event on the internal drive once (in fcpx). when i did that, fcpx tried to copy the whole event with the 4K ProRes Files, even if the 4K-files in the event where only Alias-Files. Of course there wasn't enough space for all that files and it really was a pain to fix that mess. In fcpx i didn't see a possibility to duplicate only proxies... also tried to copy the event in the finder-window (without original media), but when i opened that project on the internal drive, all files where offline... Even when i relinked manually it didn't work (actually after that, fcpx always crashed and all files of all events on my internal-drive where offline - i could only fix that by reinstalling fcpx)... Now i fear to get in such a mess again...

But if i understand you right, it should not be a problem to create a completely different event on my internal drive, import the proxies into that event, edit, than copy the project back to the external drive and relink that project to the 4k-Files? Edit: Doesn't FCPX mess things up then, as this files are "original media" in the internal-drive event and "proxy media" in the external-drive event?

Never mind, relinking media really is a no brainer in FCPX! It was me that messed up things while copying the event. Now i just did this: on my internal drive i created a new event (in fcpx). into that event i copied all the files that are in my original event on the external drive, but not the folder "original media" (i did that in the finder). now on my internal drive there is the same event as on the external drive only without the original media. then i duplicated the project to the internal drive and fcpx relinked that project automatically to the proxy-files on the internal drive. note that fcpx will only relink when "use proxy media for playback" is enabled. if not, the media will be offline. on the other side, all events that don't have proxy-media will be offline, when "use proxy media for playback" is enabled.
concerning fcpx workflows with R3D-files i can recommend to read this post on reduser.
