thanks

Yeah he's right, could well be some sort of advertisement or promotion. Since you got room there on the left and such for text. A tagline or whatever. Love the whole wall, colour and things. Great stuff. =]

I love EVERYTHING about that photo! The color depth....shadows....lighting.....background.....textures....contrast. How did you make it look like an oil painting? Please let me know what ya did here.

It has very nice post processing but your crop of the hands really makes it feel weird overall. Very nice work though.

"art metal art" is right... she had no hands or feet... it was sad

It would take a long time to describe how i did all this, but the oil painting thing your
probably speaking of is done like this. I just kinda made this up, but I bet its done
by other people as well

1. duplicate your layer until you have 3 layers
2. hide the top layer
3. select 2nd layer and cut out everything but the face
4. blur this layer
5. take eraser tool and eraser facial features such as eyes/curves/eye brows/
(anything but the skin)
6.Un hide top layer
7. lower opacity of top layer to somewhere near 68%

. that will smooth out the skin and give it a softer look

(hope that made sense)

well you can. when i started this I did it just to the face, but I now prefer doing it
to all the skin.
after you try that try this.

1. merge all your layers together
2. duplicate your layer
3. select your top layer
4. go to filter. go down to other. select high pass
(this will a weird gray effect thing to your pic)
5. go to your layers and at the top left you will see a thing that says "normal"
6. select this and take it down to "soft light" OR "hard light"
(one is stronger than the other)

this will give your picture a more animated and shaper look. like everything is in better focus

(this is probably one of the best things you can learn) try it

Another nifty thing to do is to apply the Smart blur or surface blur to the botom layer and then apply your high pass layer on top with a layer mask to decide where and how much of the high pass enhancement you bring in. Surface blur can be a wild and strange animal when it comes to creating Illustrated type looks.

nathan,

your pic is very cool. i like the cold vibe. what kind of lighting did you have?

also- thanks for the info on photoshop even if it wasn't for me. i learned a ton!

great ideas.

photoshop ideas like the ones you and matt g talked about would be an awesome thread idea....but i'm sure there already is one..

thanks man.

as far as lighting I had one SoftBox to her left and thats it, the rest is just natural lighting I used from a window in there.

The three layer process is a little too much work. This can be done as easily with just 2.

1. duplicate layer and select top layer
2. use lasso around areas where focus is most apparent, like eyes, lips, jewelry, detailed objects, reflective surfaces
3. select menu>select inverse (shift+ctrl+I) and add gaussien blur of ~8-15
4. lower the opacity of layer 2 as you see fit

All of this is of course done after you've already made your luminisity, saturation, sharpness adjustments.

A great way to take 10 years off the subject. Note: can be cheapen an otherwise great pic if overused. Also try other blending modes besides normal, there are various different cool effects one can create.
