Cool Lights with Kino Flo?

I've been toying around with possibly getting a cool light fixture and putting kino flo tubes in it. Has anyone tried this? I don't really use much flourescent lighting, so the technical side is a little new to me. Any help on this would be great. The cool lights look like they are pretty solid in their construction, might be a great option if I can get KinoFlo quality tubes to work in them :) Thanks!

Do a search on KinoFlo in the forums, there are lots of very useful threads on here about guys that have done that, and built there own. Also lots of pics and improvements. I actually think im gonna goto Home Depot and build one after work today. Good luck, if I do it I will post my results and pics back in this forum tomorrow.

The key is in the BALLASTS!!

that's my input...

just check out the other threads on it - search for KinoFlo like david suggested

Hi, I'm Richard from Cool Lights USA. I honestly can't tell you what the result will be as I haven't tried Kino Bulbs in our fixtures before. All I can tell you is our ballasts are very good. I hand picked them myself but so far I have only tried our fixtures with Osrams and our own Cool Lights brand bulbs. No ill effects whatsoever. In addition, all those that have bought so far had the intent of using our bulbs. I'm not aware of anyone that switched out yet.

I am aware though that from time-to-time you can find a ballast that doesn't like a particular brand of bulb. It shouldn't happen but it does--but since our fixtures work with Osrams I doubt there would be any problem.

By the way, all our fixtures come with free Cool Lights bulbs so why not try those and see how they work for you? They are CRI 88 or better and you can pick them in either the 3200K or 5600K flavor when you order. Hope this helps.

Hello CoolLights,
Is your bulb + your fixture is good for films shotted in 720/50p (HVX200) ? Is there a flicking problem ? Is there a buzz in audio (I don't know how to say a buzz audio probleme in english, I hope that you will undertsand what I mean) Thanks

Hi,

In my product pages I talk about this. The ballast drives the bulbs at 40,000 hz so there's no possibility of flicker. In addition, I'm a video person too so I picked the most quiet ballast I could find that was compatible with the widest range of bulbs I could. In addition, its a universal voltage ballast so it works anywhere as long as you adapt out the changeable power plug. You'll be happy with the results.

Here are a few pics from the lights I made at Home depot, they look great, and I used Daylight balanced bulbs. Two 2-bank lights with bulbs, switch and 9 ft cord cost about 60 bux total. Here are some pics of the light in action, one of the light on the ground, one of my living room without lights, and one shot of the living room with the light on in the corner of the room on top of the entertainment center bouncing off the corner walls.
