Cool lights 600 or Zylight 90?

Yup thats the best so far. Over 4 hours should cover most people pretty darn well and that price can't be beat.

After 4 hrs of continuous use, does the 600 feel hot to the touch or just comfortabley warm? How about the batt. cable?
Would the 600 flood share the same batt. usage time as the 600 spot?

Thx for sharing.

I'll let Dan answer most of those since its his test but I can tell you the spot and flood draw exactly the same power. The only difference between the two is the beam angle of the LEDs.

Hi Monkeyking Chris: (wow, I have never typed that salutation before)

It went all of the way to five and half hours before it dimmed so much as to not be usable.

The light was never more than lukewarm, that is the beauty of LED technology, it really doesn't heat up. Same with the battery and XLR cable. I am so impressed with the light and the battery. It takes 18 hours to charge so you need plan ahead but at this price I will be getting one for my flood as well. If I were flying cross country, I would buy a lighter battery with less capacity, this one is 12lbs, but in a backpack, twelve pounds is nothing, my ten year old carries more than 12lbs of books in his little backpack to school.

I love when I can find something cheap and effective for production. There are bargains out there if you hunt and use your head about how the product will be used. If I owned the HPX300 already, I would probably just buy a couple more batteries and the plate but since I don't own a broadcast style camera, this is by far the most cost effective and long running solution.

Dan,

I found this much smaller Bescor battery:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/411553-REG/Bescor_NMH54XLRNC_NMH_54XLRNC_Side_Kick_Nickel.html

Is there any reason that I wouldn't be able to get 75 minutes out of this one based on your findings with the larger Bescor that gave you 5.5 hours.

I like the larger one for local projects but having one or two of these smaller ones would be much more of a portable solution.

I noticed the larger battery is a lead-acid and this one is a nickel metal hydride. Not sure if this plays a role in the overall abilities of the batteries or not?

Tai:

The battery you link to is 4.5AH, the one I bought is 18AH. Figure 4.5 full power run time hours divided by 18AH = each hour consumed 4AH of power so yes, in theory, you would be right around 75 minutes.

But the logic eludes me why you would pay $100.00 for 75 minutes when for $24.95 more, you could get 4.5 hours. If you are wearing the battery over the shoulder or in a backpack, the difference between 1.5 lbs and 12 lbs is negligible. In my years of production experience, you will always need longer than you think you will to shoot a given scene.

Thanks Dan for the reply. I was thinking more of my overall weight for air travel, but possibly it makes more sense to cut weight in other areas and like you say have 4 times the battery time for a few bucks more.
