Cool Lights 150w Fresnel Smoking

I received my box of goodies from Cool Lights this weekend, and I'm very impressed! The build quality on everything is great. Sadly, when I went to test out my 150w Fresnel I ran into an issue.

I got my bulb loaded in (making sure not to touch it with bare skin), and turned it on. After about 45 seconds, smoke started coming through the top of the light.

The only issue I see that may have caused this is that on my light, the metal connectors on the bottom of the bulb have around 10mm of exposed wire. I tried to push them in further, but got to the point where I was afraid I was going to break the bulb.

Has anyone else had a similar issue? I've tossed a message to Cool Lights and I'm sure they'll get me taken care of, but if it's a user error on my part I want to be able to share it here so somebody else doesn't make the same mistake.

I think you will find that inside the light there is a rod that moves the lamp back and forward to change it from flood to spot mode. On this there will be some lubricant which is most likely causing the burn.

Any knew fresnel I buy gets turned on outside for an hour or so.

Thanks for your comments. Please check your spam protection. I did answer your email and its normal "cooking off" of the paint and lubrication oils in the fresnel as Noel mentioned.
