Cool Illusion

Extraordinary!

I thought I would just stop seeing the pink dots...
but they seemed to vanish one by one until the lot of them was gone.

Crazy, man...Craaaa-zy.

Strange.... I did a few grabs and the pink dot actually disappears on the rotation, i.e. the spinning effect is created by removing one pink dot then replacing then removing the next and so one. When the dot is gone it leaves a grey blank space for a split second. Thus I can understand how the dots can vanish all together, not sure about the remaining green dot flying around, thats a tough one.

Yes, I concur. All too often we try and look for scientific reasoning in things we don't understand when the obvious answer is that "it's magic"! :)

Are you sure there is no green dot, I can see it both ways...maybe my brain in Poo Pooed
I'm pretty sure the green dot is a result of persistance of vision -- same phenomenon that makes 60i and animation work and I think causes you to see a flash after its gone.

We don't see the fields in 60i, partially because of speed, but also partially because of persistance of vision, so our eye still sees a remant of the feild even when it goes away for a 60th of a second so that the next fielf blends with it -- I think persistance of vision lasts a good part of a second actually. But you see where the pink dot was and that's the green dot.

hmm.... maybe the repetition of the blank space or seeing the green dot over the pink dots cancels them out becuase they are opposite hues or something ... hmmmm...
