Maybe he is talking about a particular lens? R-series, I believe simply means it's a lens for the leica R-mount... which has been around for about 50 years, I believe. The R-mount is the SLR camera line by Leica. Over the 50 years they have released many many cameras (the last being in the 2000's, I think) and many many lenses.

Maybe it's just hard to find the ones he likes? Or maybe, since Leica's are usually very professional and revered lenses, they are hard to come by because they weren't mass produced like nikons and people hold onto them for longer.

Either way, Leica didn't forsake the R-mount lens line for about half a century. :P

I'm not sure what he meant by that.

My best guess would be that the lenses Duclos likes are probably the most recent and modern of the R-mount lenses. These probably were released along the same time as the last R-mount camera, and since the last R-mount camera (R9) was discontinued about two years ago, I'm going to guess Leica stopped making the newer R-series lenses since there would be no longer any further R-series cameras, such as the R10. So it was probably a timing issue. They released some new R-series lenses for the R9, but stopped making them when they decided to stop making the R9 and to not make an R10. They probably just moved along to the M-series and continued on.
